REACT, Identity & Strategy Design [may 2021]

A student-led Graphic Design Communication graduate showcase from the Limerick School of Art and Design. The show intended to provoke a reaction, not only from our class of graduates, but also from our audience and the wider design community. In these times, the ability to react and adapt quickly is more important than ever before.

This show celebrated the idea of reacting to our surroundings, to each other, and to the challenges in front of us. It also refers to how we as designers all react to a brief differently, creating a diverse and varied range of work each time.

As part of the design strategy, a custom typeface was created that used two alternating sets and was used in conjugation with Neue Haas Unica.

Our main social platform was Instagram, where we posted content daily. Student introduction posts took the form of desktop screenshots, allowing each student to personalise their display and offering the public a unique glimpse of their character.

As part of the design strategy, each graduate was asked to deliver their take on the identity that aimed to promote the show. The only instruction was to take the word REACT in the identity typeface and simply make it appear, disappear or animate it in place, the medium was open to the individual. The results were unique and diverse, just like our graduating class. These reactions were then used on the landing page of the website and for Instagram promotion.

The website acted as a page to not only showcase the graduates’ work, but also feature casual conversations between the students and industry interviews.
